This isn't the stone age, our characters are bound to have technology just as we do. Here you can give them cellphones, social media, even ask blogs. But watch out, there's an anonymous board that started, spreading rumors about various people and youkai alike. It's in your best interest to check the board once in a while, lest your name is brought up.
The northern portion of Shinjuku, Takadanobaba is a major residential and nightlife area for students. There are several, inexpensive clothing stores and restaurants, cafes, bookstores, as well as a sports gym and arcade.
This is the area directly east of Shinjuku Station, and while it houses several smaller districts and areas of interest, it is most famous for housing the Shinjuku Gyoen gardens, Isetan Flagship Store and Kabukicho area.
Nishi-Shinjuku is the area directly west of Shinjuku Station, and is a skyscraper business district. This district contains many of the tallest buildings in Tokyo, and these buildings typically consist of Hotels, Corporation offices, and University buildings.
With thirty-six platforms and several more connected directly from other smaller stations, both underground and above-ground arcades, and over two hundred exits, Shinjuku station is by far the world's busiest transportation hub. There are several train stations at both ground level and underground, and even includes several local and long-distance bus terminals, and various department stores and shopping malls that have been built directly into the station.
Of course, you can't expect everyone to just live in the Shinjuku area. Here, you can find the various residences around Tokyo, ranging from small, cheap apartments to large, mansion-like estates. You might even find some homes near or within forested areas, but it's unwise to stray too far from them. Youkai like having places to live too, and if a home is owned by a youkai, then you should be wary of the area surrounding it.
It's well known that Tokyo is a large hub of commercial industry, so it's no wonder so many people spend so much of their free time shopping around. The shops in Tokyo range from markets to appliance stores, bookstores to music and game shops, and caters to every class.
A group of over one thousand islands just south of Tokyo, the Ogasawara Islands are mostly uninhabited—at least, uninhabited by humans. But youkai and wildlife here are abundant, even on the volcanic islands, and it is easy for youkai to travel from the islands to the main islands of Japan.
Takama-ga-hara, or the dwelling place of the kami. Certain youkai that are servants of kami are permitted to visit this sacred place, while others and humans must remain on Earth unless given permission and are guided by servants of the kami themselves.
Ryuuguu-jou, the undersea palace, home to the guardian dragon Ryuujin and denizens of the sea. Each of the four exits of the palace represent the four seasons, and act as just one of the many gateways from the human realm to Reikai.
The forest, a place where youkai and other beings reside, is a neutral ground. It has many names depending on who speaks of it, but everyone recognizes it as just 'the forest', and no other name is needed. Hidden from the eyes of humans, even those who can see cannot find it, and is the home of many creatures that are without a shrine to attach themselves to.
